Parade Rules
AFRICAN DESCENT PARADE PARADE RULES AND REGULATIONS PRESENTED BY AFRICAN DESCENT SOCIETY BC
- The African Descent Festival parade Committee and African Descent Society board and the City of Vancouver first priority in the parade is to ensure safety of all participants and spectators, volunteer participants during the festival parade. In addition, African Descent Festival management committees, security and the RCMP officer will conduct constant security monitoring to ensure all compliance in good conduct with all provincial, municipal Bylaws implemented fully to ensure successful event.
- All applicants must sign an approval waiver’s form to acknowledge compliance with Bylaws rules and regulations for the parade and festival committee guidelines
- All parade applicants will be informed in writing about approval for them to participate in the parade once all application and payment fees received by the committee. NOTE: The parade committee reserve full rights of accept or refuse the application or accept your application on conditional basis.
- It is not guarantee that applicant to parade accepted until the applicant meet all guidelines of parade rules and regulations as set up by the committee standard unit.
- The parade welcomes everyone, non partisan, and nothing considered religious, political views because the parade is non discriminative for all communities allowed participating provided they meet the standard rules and regulations.
- The African Descent Society BC has full rights to decline, remove or reject applicants who are not following the parade regulations or disrespectful towards others.
- All parade applicants are responsible to have their own safety accompanying their parade floats in the parade routes and at least one safety monitoring person on each side is required to ensure compliance with the motor vehicle rules and regulation Act RSB (1996) CHAPTER 318. UNLESS marching, walking above 18 years and safety parade officers, security and volunteers and emergency service professionals.
- There is no minimum number per group but each participant group have to ensure one float vehicle with a maximum length of 40 feet long and 10 feet wide are only accepted standard vehicle for float.
- All accepted participants must report to the registration station at 9:00AM for check point and head to the starting route by 10:00AM and the checking station table will be provided and communicated to all participants at Thornton Park in front of National Avenue. All participants must report to the entry point for check up before the parade start over.
- NOTE: No any product be it promotional materials can be thrown in front or into the crowd or anywhere. Any materials to be distributed to others must either be handed out face to face or through other close by individuals in case one unable to reach others for hand out materials but not throwing materials in front of others is prohibited. It is prohibited to hand out materials promotional materials or any product at the parade or during the festival time without approval by the committee and this can be fined and asked to leave out the parade or the festival.
- Any applicant of animals or horses etc will require a cleanup person to be part of or behind the entry.
- NOTE: All alcoholic staff is strictly forbidden in the parade float on any vehicle and participants in the festival. The committee and security reserve full rights to remove any person caught intoxicated or during the parade will be removed.
- All vehicles and other rides must be decorated fully and any car not designed will be removed out of the parade.
- All parade must follow one person in parade guides and grand marshal in the parade and one direction throughout the parade.
- FLOAT DECORATION:
- It is advisable that all participants with floats must decorate. Music must not be louder beyond the required sound and strictly not acceptable excessive sound for noise. All decoration and music be honouring the international decade for people of African Descent.
- Responsibility of the float design is mandatory to all the float owners to ensure safety and responsibility of people of the float. And any float with fire hazard must ensure fire extinguisher on the float board to ensure safety of passengers on float.
- Note: all children or youth on board must be fully supervised by the float coordinator adults to ensure safety.
- All float must follow the general standard of float design and size which include 13’ wide x24 minus 32 in length with maximum height of 13’
- All participants must wear seatbelt while seating on their float or must wear harness on the float while standing on the float.
- Upon completion of the parade, all floats will be removed after the parade following the parade routes following the direction of supervisor and committee members in charge.
- No photographers and films makers without approved by the committee to take photos or films
- The African Descent Society BC and African Descent Festival reserve full rights to use any videos and photos for the parade participants for future use or promotional use without held liable.
